Pieces
Candidates can express their musical identity by selecting accompanied and unaccompanied pieces from our varied repertoire lists, and can choose to include an own composition in their programme. The jazz repertoire lists include opportunities to develop improvisation skills.
Technical work
This section of the exam supports the development of technical skills by assessing candidates’ performance in a range of technical work options. At lower grades candidates choose to perform either scales & arpeggios or exercises (short pieces designed to demonstrate key techniques: tone and phrasing, articulation and finger technique). At Grades 6-8 candidates choose to perform scales & arpeggios or orchestral extracts.
Supporting tests (face-to-face exams only)
Trinity’s supporting tests encourage the development of the broader musical skills of sight reading, aural, improvisation and musical knowledge. The choice allows candidates to demonstrate their own musical skills in different ways. Find out more about our supporting tests.

Exam report forms are released typically within 2 weeks for face-to-face exams, or two weeks after your submission is uploaded for digital grades. Certificates usually follow 4 weeks later.
