From September 2023 – specifications for Trinity’s face-to-face and digital Drama grades and diplomas are changing

We are pleased to announce some exciting improvements that we’re making to our Drama exams later this year: Trinity's Drama specifications have been refreshed and updated, and are now available to download.

The new syllabus specifications are for exams from September 2023. From this time onwards the 2020 face-to-face and digital grade and diploma specifications will no longer be valid, and all teachers and candidates must use the updated syllabus specifications in exams.

Explore the diversity of contemporary theatre-making

The Performance Arts exams are designed for learners who want to engage with diverse and contemporary theatre-making.

In pairs, groups or as solo performers, candidates demonstrate their skills in the imaginative and creative exploration and integration of different performance forms and materials.

These exams provide the opportunity to create performances that have personal meaning. This can range from spoken word such as comedy routines, acting or prose reading, to physical theatre such as folk and traditional dance, improvisation, puppetry or mime. Candidates can also explore opportunities provided by recorded media, such as screening and talking about a film they have made. Furthermore, candidates can explore complementary performance skills such as costume-making, lighting, set and audio design.

  • Develops a range of performance and creative skills to reflect the contemporary requirements of a multiskilled performer and the candidate’s own interests and cultures
  • Explores the diverse on and off stage skills required for diverse, contemporary theatre making
  • Explores wider theatrical skills such as make-up, costume and set design, mask work, puppetry, as well as showcasing modern technology in performance such as filmed work, lighting and sound design
  • Available from Initial to Grade 8 for solo, pair and group exams
“The Performance Arts syllabus allows a student to create a programme of work that matches their personality. It allows them to express themselves, and it really suits people who enjoy a wide variety of performance skills.”
