Roseneid

Name: Roseneid
Background: Roseneid and her husband moved to the UK after working hard for many years looking after her elderly parents and young children. They were both looking for other opportunities outside of Italy.

Living just outside of Venice Italy, Roseneid worked hard and enjoyed life but had ambitions for a different life for herself and her family. She had trained as a nurse and for many years, she worked and also cared for her elderly parents but when they passed away over a decade ago, Roseneid and her husband decided it was finally time for them to pursue their dream and look for other opportunities abroad. They settled on coming to the UK.

Like many people migrating to the UK, Roseneid was unable to continue the profession she had studied as a nurse due to her English language ability, so for ten years, was the Cleaning Supervisor in a large department store near her home. Unfortunately, when the department store closed two years ago, Roseneid was made redundant, a moment which proved to be a turning point in her life. As her children had grown and were beginning their careers in the UK, working in a hospital and as a hairdresser, she finally decided it was time to do something for herself again.

Roseneid enrolled in a local college on a two-year course to study English and Maths (Skills for Life) to improve her English enough to go back to nursing and work in a hospital again. As her English improved and her confidence grew, she decided to formalise her life in the UK by applying for British citizenship.

As part of her UK visa application Roseneid came to Trinity SELT to undertake her Secure English Language Test (SELT). She used the support materials that Trinity provided to help her study but her best piece of advice for anyone else about to sit their test is:

“100% go and get support if you need it. Sometimes looking at books at home is difficult so you need to get out and speak and listen in English to really learn the language.”

“I was panicking at the thought of the exam, but I took a deep breath, took my time and calmed down, and began to answer the questions and have a conversation with the examiner. I felt at ease as the examiner was friendly and the time flew by!”
