Malaysia

Trinity music exams first took place in Malaysia as early as 1921. However, due to World War II, the exams were interrupted and only in the 1960s did Trinity return to newly-independent Malaysia. Language and Drama & Speech examinations were then introduced in 1980. Now, as Trinity College London, we examine over 15,000 candidates each year across 40 public centres throughout the country, alongside nearly 100 private centres.

A host of activities and events, including awards and concerts, professional support seminars and workshops, complement the face to face examinations, which are held several times a year for Music and Drama & Speech as well as English Language. Our online booking platform allows for enrolment of Trinity’s suite of digital exams at any time of the year, to the convenience of the music and performance arts education community.

In 2021, Trinity will be celebrating 100 years of assessments in Malaysia and hopes to work further with the local teacher communities to benefit performing arts education.

Trinity exams update

20 November 2020

With the continued CMCO being implemented in most locations across Malaysia, face to face (F2F) practical exams are currently being suspended.

Digital Grades & Diplomas (DGD) are being introduced with bookings for new exams from January 2021.

If you have any candidates registered for F2F which you wish to convert to DGD, please contact your local representative or the Trinity KL Office.

12 October 2020 – CMCO in KL/Selangor

With the CMCO being implemented in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor from Wednesday 14 October, the exams at Plaza Mont Kiara from this date are being suspended. Please contact the Kuala Lumpur Office 03-62016201 for further details.

Perak exams – Classical Music – will proceed as planned.

Stay safe, everyone!

8 October 2020

We have suspended the 7 November theory exams in the following states:

  • Kedah
  • Kuala Lumpur
  • Pahang
  • Sabah

This is due to health & safety considerations that our large theory candidate numbers may trigger a case cluster, and some states where a lockdown is already in place. Please contact your local Trinity office/representative on the next theory session - 6 FEBRUARY 2021.

Thank you for your kind understanding during the pandemic situation.

Our face-to-face practical music exams will continue in selected parts of Malaysia with the required SOP in place.
